A portrait sculpture of an Andean condor, “An-an”, one of a pair that the artist created as "A-Un(阿吽) statue". This is the one with its mouth open called A-gyo(阿形). A(阿) is the first sound of the Sanskrit alphabet and the other, Un(吽) is the last one.
"A-Un(阿吽)" is a word in traditional Japanese that is symbolic of the starts and ends of all things. Also, it is a traditional style of Asian figurative sculptures like the half-naked muscle men called Nio or Deva who guard the temple, Korean dogs at shrines called Koma-inu, and so on. It’s no surprise that the artist, who is familiar with classical Japanese art, has this kind of idea.
We can hear the sound "a" from “A-gyo” An-an’s open mouth and feel his movement.
